Institutional portfolios are governed differently than personal ones. The questions are different — spending policy, liquidity horizon, documentation, who signs off and on what basis — and so is the standard of proof. This page is the intake path for foundations, endowments, nonprofits, corporate retirement plans, and reserve portfolios.
We work with organizations where someone has to explain the portfolio to someone else.
If your organization has an investment committee, an IPS, or an annual audit that asks how decisions were made, the process below is made for exactly that.
Our portfolio construction is rules-based. Decisions follow a defined framework rather than discretionary calls, and the framework is documented — which means the reasoning behind a position can be explained after the fact, not just asserted.
The architecture uses multiple, uncorrelated quantitative engines: momentum and trend, economic growth factors, yield-curve dynamics, valuation mean-reversion, volatility structures, machine-learning macro signals, and cross-asset ranking. Three configurable frameworks can be implemented at any equity target from 0% to 100%, calibrated to the mandate.
For a committee, the practical consequence is this: when the portfolio changes, there is a documented reason. When it doesn't change, there is a documented reason for that too.
Investing involves risk, including possible loss of principal. No process eliminates risk or guarantees any particular result.
The mandate starts with your investment policy statement, spending policy, and liquidity requirements — not with a model portfolio we already run.
Statements a committee can read, minutes that reflect what was discussed, and documentation that holds up in an audit or a leadership transition.
We work alongside your auditor, counsel, custodian, and staff. Decisions get made in the open.
Institutional-grade process does not require institutional jargon. If a committee member cannot explain the approach to a new trustee, the approach has not been communicated well enough.
We respond to formal RFPs. If you have a document and a deadline, email it to brent@vialucecapital.com and we will confirm receipt and whether we intend to respond.
If you are earlier than that and still building the search criteria, a conversation is usually more useful than a questionnaire. We are happy to walk through how we would approach the mandate without asking you to run a process first.
Tell us about the organization and the mandate. We respond promptly.
